This reminds me of a song…

By Lisa Pulsifer

The Harry Ransom Center holds a wide variety of materials, from Robert De Niro’s Taxi Driver script and costume to Einstein’s theory of gravitational waves. These and many other items are on display in our current exhibition Stories to Tell: Selections from the Harry Ransom Center. The stories told in the exhibition can bring to mind music that’s meaningful to your experiences, and we invite you to share those tunes by listening and adding songs to our collaborative Spotify playlist.

Spotify is a digital music service that provides access to millions of songs and allows users to create unique playlists that they can share with friends through social media. We recently created a playlist inspired by objects, authors, and artists in the exhibition. Anyone with a Spotify account can add to the mix. As you explore our exhibition, think of songs that would make great additions.

Listen to the playlist

We hope exhibition visitors will draw new connections between music and the works found in our gallery. How does listening to the Elton John song “Postcards from Richard Nixon,” when looking at David Douglas Duncan’s 1968 photographs of the Republican National Convention, change your experience? What music springs to mind when you’re surrounded by colorful Matisse prints? You’ll have to give our Spotify mix a chance to find out! You can access the playlist on your mobile device (with headphones) during your visit to the exhibition or outside the gallery at any time.
